what we do
Seeds for Hope connects the Maywood Proviso Giving Garden to the national community of Girl Scouts, business of Chicago's northern suburbs, and people like you to raise awareness of the Garden's mission and ensure its survival with a supply of seeds.
march for nutritionFebruary 15th 2018 In celebration of National Nutrition Month, we are hosting a seed drive for the community of Lake Forest, with all seeds and proceeds to benefit the Maywood Giving Garden. This reminds us of the root of our cause: creating social justice through access to healthy food. The last grocery store in Maywood closed in 2016 and its citizens are facing food insecurity, health issues, and poverty. Join us this month by donating packets of vegetable seeds at participating locations. Let's grow some hope!
more about maywood "Something good can grow here."
In an urban agriculture study done by the co-founder of Proviso Partners For Health (PP4H), Lena Hatchett, the idea of "something good can grow here" took root. "This notion characterized the possibility and opportunity that good things can happen in low-income urban neighborhoods... to dismantle the view of low-income neighborhoods as a place for crime, challenges, and obstacles." |
